Cell doubling time calculator and interpretation guide
Doubling time is most useful for trend comparison within the same source, counting method and culture stage—not as a universal quality score across cell lines.
Cell doubling time
Formula: DT = t × ln(2) ÷ ln(Nt/N0). Initial and final counts must use comparable units and methods.
Check comparability before interpreting the result
- Did initial and final counts use the same units and method?
- Did the interval include adaptation, over-confluence or substantial loss?
- Did aggregation bias the counting method?
- Is the result compared with a local baseline from the same source?
